The tribe of Thamud denied the Noble Messengers. 23 So they said: What! a single mortal from among us! Shall we follow him? Most surely we shall in that case be in sure error and distress: 24 "Is it that the Reminder is sent to him [Prophet Salih (Saleh)] alone from among us? Nay, he is an insolent liar!" 25 Ah! they will know on the morrow, which is the liar, the insolent one! 26 Indeed, We are sending the she-camel as trial for them, so watch them and be patient. 27 And let them know that the water [of their wells] is to be divided between them, with each share of water equitably apportioned." 28 In response they called their companion – he therefore caught and hamstrung the she-camel. 29 So how did My punishment turn out, and My warnings? 30 We sent upon them a single blast of sound and they were left like hay to be used by the cattle. 31 Surely We have made this Qur'an easy as a reminder. Is there, then, any who will take heed? 32 Lot's people also gave the lie to the warnings, 33 We sent a stone-hurtling storm against them, except the family of Lot whom We saved in the early hours of the morning 34 As a Grace from Us: thus do We reward those who give thanks. 35 For he had truly warned them of Our punishing might; but they stubbornly cast doubt on these warnings, 36 And they indeed sought to shame his guest (by asking to commit sodomy with them). So We blinded their eyes, "Then taste you My Torment and My Warnings." 37 and early in the morning the punishment decreed overtook them -- 38 "So taste ye My Wrath and My Warning." 39 Hence, indeed, We made this Qur'an easy to bear in mind: who, then, is willing to take it to heart? 40
