The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ When the forthcoming event does occur. 1 and there can be no denying its happening, 2 (Many) will it bring low; (many) will it exalt; 3 When the earth is shaken with a shock 4 And the mountains are broken down, crumbling 5 and will scatter abroad into fine dust. 6 you shall be divided into three parties, 7 Companions of the Right, what are the Companions of the Right? 8 And (as to) the companions of the left hand; how wretched are the companions of the left hand! 9 and the Outstrippers: the Outstrippers 10 Who will be honoured 11 In the Gardens of Pleasure, 12 A number of people from those of old, 13 and how few of the later folk) 14 Seated on couches wrought in gold and encrusted with precious stones, 15 Reclining thereon, face to face. 16 Surrounded by immortal boys. 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of limpid drink. 18 neither causing headaches, nor intoxication; 19 And fruit that they prefer 20 And meat of birds that they may wish. 21 and wide-eyed houris 22 Like unto hidden pearls, 23 A reward for what they used to do. 24 Therein they hear no vain or sinful discourse. 25 (Naught) but the saying: Peace, (and again) Peace. 26 NOW AS FOR those who have attained to righteousness - what of those who have attained to righteousness? 27 Amid thornless lote-trees, 28 And acacia covered with heaps of bloom, 29 and shade extended, 30 By water flowing constantly, 31 and fruits in abundance, 32 Whose season is not limited, and their supply will not be cut off, 33 And raised couches. 34 Indeed We formed them (the houris and all believing women), 35 And made them virgin - pure (and undefiled), - 36 The beloved of their husbands, of one age. 37 For the companions of the right [who are] 38
