He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came unto him a blind man. 2 for how can you know that he might seek to purify himself, 3 Or be admonished, and the admonition profit him? 4 Yet you pay attention 5 to him thou attendest 6 And no blame is on you if he would not purify himself 7 And as for him who cometh unto thee running, 8 And hath fear, 9 him didst thou disregard! 10 Not this way – this is the advice. 11 For any one who desires to bear it in mind, 12 It is set down on honoured pages, 13 lofty and pure, 14 [borne] by the hands of messengers 15 Noble, virtuous. 16 Cursed be man! how ungrateful is he! 17 Of what thing hath He created him? 18 From a (sperm) drop He created him and then determined him, 19 Then He makes the Path easy for him; 20 He will then send him to death and have him laid in the grave. 21 and He will resurrect him whenever He wants. 22 Nay, but [man] has never yet fulfilled what He has enjoined upon him! 23 So let man just consider his food: 24 It is We Who pour forth water, pouring, 25 Then We broke open the earth, splitting [it with sprouts], 26 Then We cause to grow therein the grain, 27 And Grapes and nutritious plants, 28 And Olives and Dates, 29 and dense-tree'd gardens, 30 and fruit and pastures, 31 (To be) a provision and benefit for you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening cry comes, 33 on a Day when everyone will [want to] flee from his brother, 34 and from his mother and father, 35 And his wife and his sons; 36 on that Day every man among them will have enough concern of his own -- 37 Some faces on that day will be radiant, 38 laughing and joyful, 39 but some faces will be covered with dust 40 Dust shall cover them 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked ones. 42
