The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
I swear by the sun and its brilliance, 1 and the moon as it reflects the sun! 2 The day when it reveals his radiance, 3 And by the night as it conceals it (the sun); 4 By the heaven and Him Who builded it, 5 And the earth and Him Who spread it, 6 And the soul and Him Who made it perfect, 7 And inspired it (with conscience of) what is wrong for it and (what is) right for it. 8 To a happy state shall indeed attain he who causes this [self] to grow in purity, 9 And he will indeed fail who corrupts it. 10 Thamud denied [their prophet] by reason of their transgression, 11 when the most corrupt of them incited them (to commit evil). 12 the Messenger of Allah said to them: '(This is) the shecamel of Allah, let her drink' 13 Then they belied him and they hamstrung her; wherefore their Lord overwhelmed them for their crime, and made it equal. 14 And He does not fear the consequence thereof. 15
