The Night (Al-Layl)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By oath of the night when it covers 1 And [by] the day when it appears 2 And Him who created the male and female, 3 That your endeavour is for different ends. 4 So for one who gave and practised piety 5 And testifieth to the Good, 6 observe piety, and believe in receiving rewards from God. 7 But as for him who is niggardly, and thinks that he is self-sufficient, 8 And gives the lie to Al-Husna (see Verse No: 6 footnote); 9 Unto him therefore We shall Indeed make easy the path to hardship. 10 and his wealth shall be of no avail to him when he perishes. 11 BEHOLD, it is indeed for Us to grace [you] with guidance; 12 And verily unto Us (belong) the End and the Beginning. 13 So, I warn you of the blazing Fire. 14 None shall roast therein but the most wretched, 15 Who denied (the truth) and turned away. 16 For, distant from it shall remain he who is truly conscious of God: 17 who spend for the cause of God and purify themselves. 18 And have in their minds no favour from anyone for which a reward is expected in return, 19 But only seeking the Countenance of his Lord the Most High. 20 And indeed, soon he will be very pleased. 21
