a large throng from the ancients, 39 and also a large throng from those of later times. 40 The Companions of the Left Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Left Hand? 41 [They will find themselves] in the midst of scorching winds, and burning despair, 42 and a shade of thick, pitch-black smoke, 43 Neither cool nor honorable. 44 Verily they have been heretofore affluent. 45 and would persist in heinous sinning, 46 ever saying, 'What, when we are dead and become dust and bones, shall we indeed be raised up? 47 And also our forefathers?" 48 Say: "Indeed, the earlier and the later generations 49 "They will all be gathered together - on the appointed time of the known day." 50 Then you, the erring and the deniers, 51 You will indeed eat from the Zaqqum tree. 52 And shall fill therewith your bellies. 53 And thereon ye will drink of boiling water, 54 drink it as the most insatiably thirsty camels drink!" 55 This will be their welcome on the Day of Judgment. 56 It is We who have created you. Why then did you not testify to the Truth? 57 Do ye then see?- The (human Seed) that ye throw out,- 58 Is it you who create it (i.e. make this semen into a perfect human being), or are We the Creator? 59 It is We who have ordained death for all of you; and We cannot be prevented 60 In that We will change your likenesses and produce you in that [form] which you do not know. 61 You have certainly known the first creation. Why, then, do you not take heed? 62 Have you thought about what crops you plant? 63 Is it you or We Who make them grow? 64 Were it Our Will, We could crumble it to dry powder, and ye would be left in wonderment, 65 'We are debt-loaded; 66 nay, we are deprived [altogether]." 67 Have you thought about the water you drink? 68 Is it you who sent it down from the clouds or is it We who have sent it down? 69 If We willed, We verily could make it salt (and undrinkable), why then do you not give thanks (to Allah)? 70 Have you seen the fire which you kindle? 71 Is it you who made the tree thereof to grow, or are We the Grower? 72 We have made it a memorial (of Our handiwork), and an article of comfort and convenience for the denizens of deserts. 73 Extol, then, the limitless glory of thy Sustainer's mighty name! 74
