The News (Al-Naba')
40 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej) before The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ About what are they asking one another? 1 About the great tidings! 2 whereupon they are at variance? 3 By no means! anon they shall know. 4 Nay! Nay! they shall soon know. 5 Did We not make the earth a bed? 6 The mountains tent-pins? 7 And We have created you in pairs; 8 and We appointed your sleep for a rest; 9 And made the night a cover. 10 And made the day for livelihood 11 And We built above you seven strong ones, 12 and placed in them a blazing lamp 13 And We send down from the clouds water pouring forth abundantly, 14 That We may produce therewith corn and vegetables, 15 and thick gardens grow? 16 Surely a time is fixed for the Day of Judgement. 17 It is a Day whereon the trumpet will be blown, and ye will come in multitudes. 18 The heavens will have openings like doors. 19 And the mountains shall be moved away from their places and they will be as if they were a mirage. 20 Hell will lie in wait (for its prey). 21 for the insolent a resort, 22 there, they shall live for ages, 23 They will neither taste anything cool in it, nor anything to drink. 24 save boiling water and a stinking fluid -- 25 for a suitable recompense. 26 They did not expect such a Judgment 27 And called Our communications a lie, giving the lie (to the truth). 28 And everything We have recorded in a book. 29 "So taste [the penalty], and never will We increase you except in torment." 30

When reading the Colorful Quran in English transliterated Arabic mode, you may not notice that there is an algorithm designed to match the pause requirements of the original Arabic scripture, (waqf signs). As you may know, the original Arabic Quran has five main types of pauses, (waqf) signs. (1) Compulsory break, where the transliteration uses a full stop. (2) Optional pause with the preference for pausing, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a probability of two thirds. (3) Optional stop with an equal preference for pausing and resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a half-half probability. (4) Optional pause with the preference for resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a chance of one third. (5) Attraction pause, also called hugging, or (mu’anaka) sign, where it is compulsory to pause at either one of two nearby positions, but not both; where the transliteration inserts a comma at either one of the two locations with a half-half probability.
