The Prophets (Al-Anbyaa')
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ Draws near for mankind their reckoning, while they turn away in heedlessness. 1 Never comes (aught) to them of a renewed Message from their Lord, but they listen to it as in jest,- 2 their hearts set on passing delights; yet they who are [thus] bent on wrongdoing conceal their innermost thoughts [when they say to one another,] "Is this [Muhammad] anything but a mortal like yourselves? Will you, then, yield to [his] spellbinding eloquence with your eyes open?" 3 He said: "My Lord knows whatever is spoken in the heavens and the earth. He hears all and knows everything." 4 "Nay," they say: "[Muhammad propounds] the most involved and confusing of dreams!" "Nay, but he has invented [all] this!" - "Nay, but he is [only] a poet!" - [and,] "Let him, then, come unto us with a miracle, just as those [prophets] of old were sent [with miracles]?" 5 Not a city before them which We destroyed believed; will they then believe? 6 Never did We send a message before you but through a man, whom We inspired. If you do not know, then ask the keepers of the oracles of God. 7 And We did not make the prophets forms not eating food, nor were they immortal [on earth]. 8 Our promise to them came true and We saved them and those whom We wanted, but destroyed the unjust people. 9 Now, We have sent down to you a Book in which is your Remembrance. Will you not understand? 10
