The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the Mount 1 and the Book inscribed 2 on fine parchment; 3 Consider the long-enduring house [of worship]! 4 And by the roof raised high (i.e. the heaven). 5 and by the swelling sea: 6 Verily, the Doom of thy Lord will indeed come to pass;- 7 there is none to prevent it. 8 On the Day when the heaven will shake with a dreadful shaking, 9 And the mountains will pass on, departing - 10 On that Day woe to those who belied 11 Those who in wading sport themselves. 12 On that Day when they shall be pitched into the Fire of Gehenna (Hell), 13 'This is the fire that you cried lies to! 14 Is this, then, any feat of magic or are you unable to see? 15 Burn in its heat. It is all the same for you whether you exercise patience or not; This is the recompense for your deeds". 16 Verily, the Muttaqun (pious - see V. 2:2) will be in Gardens (Paradise), and Delight. 17 Enjoying the (Bliss) which their Lord hath bestowed on them, and their Lord shall deliver them from the Penalty of the Fire. 18 "Eat and drink with relish," (they will be told), (as recompense) for what you had done." 19 Reclining on thrones, in rows; and We have wedded them to maidens with gorgeous eyes. 20 And those who believe and whose families follow them in Faith,- to them shall We join their families: Nor shall We deprive them (of the fruit) of aught of their works: (Yet) is each individual in pledge for his deeds. 21 And We shall provide them with fruit and meat, such as they desire. 22 There they will pass a goblet to one another with neither idle talk nor sin, 23 ۞ and youths, of their own, shall pass among them as if they were hidden pearls. 24 And some of them draw near unto others, questioning, 25 Saying: "Aforetime, we were afraid with our families (from the punishment of Allah). 26 "But Allah has been good to us, and has delivered us from the Penalty of the Scorching Wind. 27 Lo! we used to pray unto Him of old. Lo! He is the Benign, the Merciful. 28
