Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Have you heard the story of the overwhelming event (the Day of Judgment)? 1 Some faces, that Day, will be humiliated, 2 Travailing, worn. 3 roasting at a scorching fire, 4 that is fueled from a tremendously hot fountain, 5 They will have no food other than bitter and thorny fruit 6 that will neither nourish nor satisfy their hunger. 7 (Other) faces on that day shall be happy, 8 Well-pleased with their endeavour, 9 In a high Garden. 10 Where they hear no idle speech, 11 A gushing fountain shall be there 12 And within it are couches placed on high, 13 And cups put in place 14 And cushions set in rows, 15 And carpets spread out. 16 Will they not then consider the camels, how they are created? 17 And the sky: how it was raised high? 18 And the mountains, how they were fixed; 19 And at the Earth, how it is spread out? 20 Then remind them! Thou art only a reminder; 21 You are not a warden over them, 22 But whoever will turn away (from the Truth), 23 him will God cause to suffer the greatest suffering [in the life to come]: 24 Certainly, it is to Us that they will return. 25 And Ours their reckoning. 26
