The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
I swear by the sun and its brilliance, 1 and by the moon as it follows it, 2 And by the day as it shows up (the sun's) brightness; 3 and by the night when it draws a veil over it, 4 By the heaven and Who built it, 5 and by the earth and by Him Who stretched it out; 6 and by the soul and that (Power) which designed it 7 Then He inspired it to understand what is right and wrong for it; 8 Prosperous is he who purifies it, 9 And indeed failed is the one who covered it in sin. 10 In their presumptuous insolence the Thamud called the Truth a lie 11 When the most wicked among them stood up in defiance. 12 although God's apostle had told them, "It is a she-camel belonging to God, so let her drink [and do her no harm]!" 13 But they denied him, and they hamstrung her, so Allah doomed them for their sin and rased (their dwellings). 14 He does not fear the consequence. 15
