And Aaron indeed had told them beforehand: O my people! Ye are but being seduced therewith, for lo! your Lord is the Beneficent, so follow me and obey my order. 90 They replied: 'We will not stop; we will cling to it until Moses returns to us.' 91 Moses said, 'What prevented thee, Aaron, when thou sawest them in error, 92 So that you did not follow me? Did you then disobey my order? 93 Answered [Aaron]: "O my mother's son! Seize me not by my beard, nor by my head! Behold, I was afraid lest [on thy return] thou say, 'Thou hast caused a split among the children of Israel, and hast paid no heed to my bidding!" 94 He said: What was then your object, O Samiri? 95 He replied: 'I saw what they did not see and seized a handful of dust from the foot print of the messenger and so I cast it; this my soul prompted me to do' 96 'Begone! Your lot in this life is to cry: "untouchable!' said he (Moses). 'An appointment awaits you that you cannot fail to keep. Look at your god which you clung to indeed we will burn it and scatter its ashes upon the sea' 97 Your Allah is only Allah, there is no god but He; He comprehends all things in (His) knowledge. 98 And so We narrate to you the stories of the past, and We have given you a remembrance from Us. 99 Whoever disregards (the Quran) will be heavily burdened with sin on the Day of Judgment 100 They will remain in it forever – what an evil burden it will be for them on the Day of Resurrection! 101 On the day the Trumpet is blown; and We shall muster the sinners upon that day with eyes staring, 102 They shall consult together secretly: You did tarry but ten (centuries). 103 We know well what they will utter, whereas the wisest among them will say, “You have stayed just for a day.” 104
