(The tribe of) A’ad denied the Noble Messengers. 123 when their brother Hud said unto them: "Will you not be conscious of God? 124 "I am to you a messenger worthy of all trust: 125 Therefore guard against (the punishment of) Allah and obey me: 126 "And no reward whatever do I ask of you for it: my reward rests with none but the Sustainer of all the worlds. 127 "Will you, in your wanton folly, build [idolatrous] altars on every height, 128 "And do you get for yourselves palaces (fine buildings) as if you will live therein for ever. 129 And when you lay hands (on men) you lay hands (like) tyrants; 130 Have fear of God and obey me. 131 Fear Him who has bestowed on you what you know, 132 He hath aided you with cattle and sons. 133 and gardens, and springs -- 134 Indeed, I fear for you the punishment of a terrible day." 135 They replied: "It is all the same for us whether you admonish us or not. 136 "This is no other than the false-tales and religion of the ancients, [Tafsir At-Tabari, Vol. 19, Page 97] 137 And we are not going to be punished. 138 So they rejected him; and We destroyed them. There is certainly a sign in that; but most of them would not believe. 139 And lo! thy Lord, He is indeed the Mighty, the Merciful. 140
