The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O thou wrapped up (in the mantle)! 1 Arise, and warn. 2 Thy Lord magnify 3 thy robes purify 4 and defilement flee! 5 Give not, thinking to gain greater 6 and be patient unto thy Lord. 7 Then, when the Trumpet is sounded (i.e. its second blowing); 8 that very Day shall be a day of anguish, 9 For the disbelievers - not easy. 10 Leave Me and him whom I created alone, 11 And gave him vast wealth. 12 And gave him sons present before him. 13 And for whom I smoothed everything. 14 and who still desires more. 15 By no means! Verily he hath been unto Our signs a foe. 16 I shall force him to endure a painful uphill climb! 17 Verily, he thought and plotted; 18 So may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. 19 Then may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. 20 Then he looked, 21 then frowned and scowled; 22 then he retreated and grew proud 23 and says, "All this is mere spellbinding eloquence handed down [from olden times]! 24 These are only words from a mere mortal". 25 I will drive him into Saqar. 26 - Ah, what will convey unto thee what that burning is! - 27 It spares not (any sinner), nor does it leave (anything unburnt)! 28 it scorches (even) the skin. 29 Over it are appointed nineteen. 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire. We have specified their number only as a trial for those who are bent on denying the truth, so that those who were given the Book might gain in certainty, and those who believe might increase in faith -- and so that neither those who have been given the Scripture nor the believers might have any doubts, and that those sick at heart and those who deny the truth might ask, "What does God mean by this parable?" In this way, God lets go astray whom He wills, and guides whom He wills. And none knows the forces of your Lord but He. This is but a Reminder for man. 31
