He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ The Prophet frowned and turned away 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 And what could let you know? Perhaps he (comes to hear you) to be purified. 3 Or that he may accept advice, so the advice may benefit him. 4 But the self-sufficient, 5 you attend to him, 6 though it is not thy concern, if he does not cleanse himself. 7 And as for him who cometh unto thee running, 8 And with fear (in his heart), 9 From him thou art distracted. 10 Nay, but verily it is an Admonishment, 11 So whoever wishes may remember it. 12 (Contained) in honoured pages, 13 exalted and purified, 14 (Written) by the hands of scribes- 15 Noble, virtuous. 16 Cursed be man! how ungrateful is he! 17 From what thing did He create him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm! He creates and proportions him, 19 and then made the course of life easy for him, 20 Then causeth him to die, and burieth him; 21 Then, when He willed, He brought him out. (As during the night of Holy Prophet’s ascension, when all the Prophets gathered behind him in the Al Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem. Or when Allah will raise everyone on the Day of Resurrection.) 22 Nay, but (man) hath not done what He commanded him. 23 Then let mankind look at his food - 24 [how it is] that We pour down water, pouring it down abundantly; 25 Thereafter We cleave the earth in clefts, 26 And We made corn grow, 27 and grape vines and vegetables, 28 and olives, and palms, 29 And garden-closes of thick foliage 30 And fruits and herbage: 31 (To be) a provision and benefit for you and your cattle. 32 But when the Shout cometh 33 That Day shall a man flee from his own brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 And his spouse and his son-- 36 For every one of them on that Day shall be business enough to occupy 37 [Some] faces, that Day, will be bright - 38 laughing, rejoicing at glad tidings. 39 And other faces, on that day, with dust upon them, 40 enveloped by darkness. 41 These will be the faces of the sinful disbelievers. 42
