Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the dawn 1 And by oath of ten nights. 2 by the even, and the odd, 3 And the night when it departs. 4 Is there (not) in these an adjuration (or evidence) for those who understand? 5 Have you not seen how your Lord dealt with Ad 6 The people of many-columned lram. 7 The like of which were not created in the land? 8 And (with) Thamud (people), who cut (hewed) out rocks in the valley (to make dwellings)? 9 (Also consider the people of) the Pharaoh who victimized people by placing them on the stake, 10 They were tyrants in the land 11 and exceeded in corruption therein. 12 Wherefore thy Lord poured on them the scourge of His torment. 13 surely thy Lord is ever on the watch. 14 Now, as for man, when his Lord trieth him, giving him honour and gifts, then saith he, (puffed up), "My Lord hath honoured me." 15 But whenever He trieth him by straitening his means of life, he saith: My Lord despiseth me. 16 No! But you show no good to the orphan, 17 And urge not on the feeding of AlMiskin (the poor)! 18 and greedily devour the entire inheritance, 19 and love the riches, loving them ardently. 20 Nay! When the earth is ground to powder, 21 and [the majesty of] thy Sustainer stands revealed, as well as [the true nature of] the angels; rank upon rank? 22 And Hell is brought near, that day will man remember, but of what avail will then remembering be? 23 He will say, "Oh, would that I had provided beforehand for my life!" 24 None can punish as He will punish on that day, 25 And His bonds will be such as none (other) can bind. 26 O satisfied soul, 27 "Come back to your Lord, Well-pleased (yourself) and well-pleasing unto Him! 28 "Enter thou, then, among My devotees! 29 and enter My Paradise.” 30
