The News (Al-Naba')
40 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej) before The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ About what are they asking one another? 1 About the great event, 2 concerning which they have disputes. 3 (What they think is certainly despicable!). They will soon come to know (the reality). 4 Again, indeed, they shall know! 5 HAVE WE NOT made the earth a resting-place [for you,] 6 And the mountains as stakes? 7 And We have created you in pairs; 8 and We made your sleep a rest, 9 And We made the night to be a covering, 10 and We made the day for a livelihood. 11 We have built above you seven mighty heavens, 12 And placed a lamp therein brightly burning. 13 And We have sent down from the rain-clouds water plenteous. 14 That We may bring forth thereby grain and vegetation 15 And gardens of thick foliage. 16 The Day of Judgment will certainly be the final appointment. 17 the Day when the trumpet [of resurrection] is sounded and you all come forward in multitudes; 18 and heaven is opened, having gates, 19 And the hills are set in motion and become as a mirage. 20 Indeed, Gehenna (Hell) has become an ambush, 21 a home for the transgressors, 22 for the rebellious ones and they will live therein for ages. 23 They will not taste therein cool or any drink. 24 Save boiling water and a paralysing cold: 25 A fitting recompense (for them). 26 Surely they feared not the account, 27 and they rejected outright Our signs; 28 Everything have We recorded in a Book. 29 So taste you (the results of your evil actions); no increase shall We give you, except in torment. 30
