Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By the dawn 1 and the ten nights! 2 by the even and the odd, 3 And by the Night when it passeth away;- 4 is there not in this strong evidence for a man of sense? 5 Did you not see how did your Lord deal with (the tribe of) Aad? 6 of Iram, known for their lofty columns, 7 the like of whom no nation was ever created in the lands of the world? 8 And with (the tribe of) Thamud, who clove the rocks in the valley; 9 And with Pharaoh, firm of might, 10 All of them committed excesses in their lands, 11 And multiplied iniquity therein? 12 So your Lord poured a scourge of punishment over them. 13 your Lord keeps an eye on (all evil-doing people). 14 As for man, when his Lord tries him by giving him honour and gifts, then he says (puffed up): "My Lord has honoured me." 15 And when He proveth him, and so stinteth unto him his provision, he saith: 'my Lord hath despised me. 16 Nay! but you do not honor the orphan, 17 Nor urge upon each other the feeding of the poor, 18 And you eat away the heritage, devouring (everything) indiscriminately, 19 and you have a love of wealth which can never be satisfied. 20 But no; when the earth is ground to powder, 21 and [the majesty of] thy Sustainer stands revealed, as well as [the true nature of] the angels; rank upon rank? 22 And hell is made to appear on that day. On that day shall man be mindful, and what shall being mindful (then) avail him? 23 He will say: "Oh, would that I had provided beforehand for my life [to come]!" 24 For, that Day, His Chastisement will be such as none (else) can inflict, 25 and none can bind with bonds like His. 26 'O soul at peace, 27 return to your Lord, well-pleased, well-pleasing. 28 Join My worshipers and 29 And enter thou My Garden. 30
