The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Recite thou in the name of thy Lord Who hath created 1 Created man from a clinging substance. 2 Read, and your Lord only is the Most Beneficent, 3 who taught by the Pen, 4 Taught man that which he knew not. 5 Nay, verily, man becomes grossly overweening 6 that he sees himself sufficed. 7 Surely your returning is to your Lord. 8 Hast thou seen him who dissuadeth 9 A votary when he (turns) to pray? 10 Hast thou considered whether he is on the right way, 11 Or had enjoined piety, (it would have been better)? 12 What will happen if the prohibiting rejects the Truth and turns away from it!? 13 Knoweth he not that Allah doth see? 14 No indeed; surely, if he gives not over, We shall seize him by the forelock, 15 A lying, sinful forelock! 16 Then let him call his associates; 17 We will call on the angels of punishment (to deal with him)! 18 Nay! obey him not, and make obeisance and draw nigh (to Allah). ۩ 19
God Almighty has spoken the truth.
