The people of Thamud rejected Our warnings. 23 They said, "Should we follow only one person among us. We shall be clearly in error and in trouble (if we do so). 24 Has the reminder been made to light upon him from among us? Nay! he is an insolent liar! 25 "Tomorrow they will know who is the impudent liar! 26 Lo! We are sending the she-camel as a test for them; so watch them and have patience; 27 And inform them that the water is to be shared between (her and) them. Each one's right to drink being established (by turns). 28 But they summoned their [boldest] companion, and he ventured [upon the evil deed,] and cruelly slaughtered [the animal]: 29 How then were My chastisement and My warnings? 30 Behold, We let loose upon them one single blast [of Our punishment,] and they became like the dried-up, crumbling twigs of a sheepfold. 31 And certainly We have made the Quran easy for remembrance, but is there anyone who will mind? 32 The folk of Lot rejected warnings. 33 Lo! We sent a storm of stones upon them (all) save the family of Lot, whom We rescued in the last watch of the night, 34 as a blessing from Us: thus do We reward all who are grateful. 35 He had warned them of Our assault but they disputed the warnings. 36 They even asked of him his guests for an ill purpose. Then We blinded their eyes (and said): Taste now My punishment after My warnings! 37 And assuredly there met them early in the morning a torment settled. 38 So have a taste of My chastisement and My warnings. 39 And We have indeed made the Qur’an easy to memorise, so is there one who would remember? 40
