The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the star when it goes down, (or vanishes). 1 Your companion did not err, nor did he go astray. 2 Neither does he speak of his own will. 3 that [which he conveys to you] is but [a divine] inspiration with which he is being inspired 4 The Lord of Mighty Power has taught him, 5 very strong; he stood poised, 6 while he was in the highest horizon; 7 and then drew near, and came close, 8 until he was as close to him as the distance of two bows, or even less. 9 and revealed to God's servant what he revealed. 10 The heart lied not in that which he saw. 11 Will you then argue with him about what he saw? 12 And indeed he (Muhammad SAW) saw him [Jibrael (Gabriel)] at a second descent (i.e. another time). 13 By the lote-tree of the utmost boundary, 14 close to the Garden of Refuge. 15 When that which shroudeth did enshroud the lote-tree, 16 (Muhammad's) eyes did not deceive him, nor did they lead him to falsehood. 17 for indeed he saw one of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 Have ye then considered Al-Lat and AL-'uzza: 19 and your third idol al-Manat (whom you considered as God's daughters)? 20 What! for you the male sex, and for Him, the female? 21 that, lo and behold, is an unfair division! 22 These are only names which you and your fathers have invented. No authority was sent down by God for them. They only follow conjecture and wish-fulfilment, even though guidance had come to them already from their Lord. 23 Or is there for man whatever he wishes? 24 Nay! for Allah is the hereafter and the former (life). 25
