The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ When the inevitable event takes place, 1 and there can be no denying its happening, 2 abasing, exalting, 3 When the earth is shaken 4 And the mountains will be crushed, blown to bits. 5 so that they become as scattered dust 6 You will become three categories: 7 The People on the Right: and how fortunate will be the People on the Right! 8 And those on the left hand; how miserable shall those on the left hand be! 9 And the forerunners, the forerunners - 10 (The foremost ones) will be the nearest ones to God 11 In Gardens of Delight. 12 A throng of the ancients, 13 and only a few of them from the later generations. 14 (They will be) on Thrones encrusted (with gold and precious stones), 15 reclining upon them, facing one another [in love]. 16 Immortal youths will serve them 17 with goblets, jugs and cups of crystal clear wine 18 which will not cause them any intoxication or illness. 19 And with fruit from that which they choose. 20 and with the flesh of any fowl that they may desire to eat; 21 and wide-eyed houris 22 like the pearls in their shells: 23 [And this will be] a reward for what they did [in life]. 24 No Laghw (dirty, false, evil vain talk) will they hear therein, nor any sinful speech (like backbiting, etc.). 25 (Naught) but the saying: Peace, (and again) Peace. 26 As for the people of the right hand, how happy they will be! 27 [They will be] among lote trees with thorns removed 28 And [banana] trees layered [with fruit] 29 And extended shade, 30 By water flowing constantly, 31 And fruit in abundance. 32 Neither limited [to season] nor forbidden, 33 And couches raised up. 34 Perfectly We formed them, perfect, 35 And made them virginal, 36 Loving companions matched in age, 37 for those on the Right, 38
