Nay; I swear by the moon, 32 by the retreating night, 33 and the morn when it dawns! 34 Surely, it is one of the gravest things, 35 Warn the men. 36 To any of you that chooses to go forward (by working righteous deeds), or to remain behind (by commiting sins), 37 Every soul is a pledge for its own deeds; 38 except the Companions of the Right. 39 In Gardens they will question 40 concerning the sinners, 41 “What drove you to Hell?” 42 They will say, "We were not of those who prayed, 43 And we used not to feed the poor; 44 and we indulged in vain talk with those who indulged in vain talk, 45 and we cried lies to the Day of Doom, 46 until certainty came upon us [in death]." 47 The intercession of their intercessors shall not benefit them. 48 If such will be the Day of Judgment, what is the matter with them? Why do they run away from guidance, 49 as though they were terrified asses 50 running away from a lion? 51 Forsooth, each one of them wants to be given scrolls (of revelation) spread out! 52 No! They do not fear the Hereafter -- 53 Nay, verily, this (Quran) is an admonition, 54 So whoever pleases may mind it. 55 And they will not receive admonition unless Allah wills; He (Allah) is the One, deserving that mankind should be afraid of, and should be dutiful to Him, and should not take any Ilah (God) along with Him, and He is the One Who forgives (sins). 56
