The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ About what are they asking one another? 1 (It is) of the awful tidings, 2 Concerning which they differ. 3 Verily, they shall soon (come to) know! 4 Yes, indeed, before long they will learn all about it. 5 Have We not made the earth as a bed, 6 and the mountains as pegs? 7 We created you in pairs, 8 and We have made your sleep [a symbol of] death 9 The night a covering, 10 And We made the day for seeking livelihood. 11 And We have built above you seven firmaments, 12 And placed (therein) a Light of Splendour? 13 and have sent down out of the rainclouds water cascading 14 That We may bring forth thereby corn and herbs, 15 and luxuriant gardens. 16 Verily, the Day of Decision is a fixed time, 17 the Day when the trumpet [of resurrection] is sounded and you all come forward in multitudes; 18 And the heavens shall be opened as if there were doors, 19 And the mountains are removed and will be [but] a mirage. 20 Surely the Hell is an ambush, 21 For the transgressors, a place of return, 22 there, they shall live for ages, 23 They will neither taste anything cool in it, nor anything to drink. 24 only burning despair and ice-cold darkness: 25 as a fitting recompense for their deeds. 26 For that they used not to fear any account (for their deeds), 27 And rejected Our signs as lies. 28 And everything have We recorded in a Book. 29 So taste (the fruit of your deeds). We shall only increase your torment. 30
