He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ HE FROWNED and turned away 1 because the blind man approached him! 2 for how can you know that he might seek to purify himself, 3 or he might be mindful and good counsel might avail him. 4 As for him who considers himself free from need (of you), 5 to him didst thou give thy whole attention, 6 And not upon you [is any blame] if he will not be purified. 7 but as for him who came unto thee full of eagerness 8 While he fears [Allah], 9 you pay him no heed. 10 Indeed, this [Quran] is an admonition. 11 So whosoever willeth - let him be admonished therewlth. 12 in [the light of His] revelations blest with dignity, 13 Exalted, pure. 14 Written by the hands of emissaries. 15 Noble, virtuous. 16 Cursed is man; how disbelieving is he. 17 From what has God created him? 18 From a drop of seed. He createth him and proportioneth him, 19 Then maketh the way easy for him, 20 Then He causes his death and provides a grave for him. 21 and then, if it be His will, He shall raise him again to life, 22 Not one – he has not yet completed what he was commanded. 23 Let Man consider his nourishment. 24 We let the rain pour down in torrents 25 And We split the earth in clefts, 26 to yield therein corn, 27 And grapes and herbage 28 And olives and palms 29 Orchards thick with trees, 30 And fruits and Abba (herbage, etc.), 31 for you and for your herds to delight in. 32 But, when the Blast comes, 33 That Day shall a man flee from his own brother, 34 And from his mother and father, 35 And from his wife and sons. 36 on that Day each will be occupied with his own business, making him oblivious of all save himself. 37 Faces on that Day shall be beaming, 38 laughing, and rejoicing, 39 but some faces will be covered with dust 40 enveloped by darkness. 41 These will be the faces of the sinful disbelievers. 42
