Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Hath there come unto thee tidings of the Overwhelming? 1 On that Day, there shall be downcast faces, 2 Toiling, weary, 3 Scorched by burning fire, 4 watered at a boiling fountain, 5 They will have no food except bitter thorn, 6 which will neither fatten them nor satisfy them. 7 Many faces will be joyous on that day, 8 Rejoicing over their efforts. 9 They will live in an exalted garden 10 Where they hear no idle speech, 11 Within it is a flowing spring. 12 Therein will be thrones raised high, 13 Goblets set, 14 and cushions ranged, 15 And rich carpets (all) spread out. 16 Will they not regard the camels, how they are created? 17 And the heaven – how it has been raised? 18 And the hills, how they are set up? 19 and how the earth is spread out? 20 Therefore remind, you are only a Reminder. 21 and are not invested with the authority to compel them. 22 However, as for him who turns away, being bent on denying the truth, 23 Allah will chastise him with the greatest chastisement. 24 Verily unto Us is their return. 25 In Our hands are their accounts. 26
