The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
READ in the name of thy Sustainer, who has created 1 He created man from a clot. 2 Read! Your Lord is the Most Bountiful One 3 who taught by the pen, 4 Taught man what he knew not. 5 Nay, surely man transgresses; 6 That he thinketh himself independent! 7 Indeed, to your Lord is the returning. 8 Have you seen the one who forbids 9 A slave when he prayeth? 10 What will happen if the praying person is rightly guided 11 or is concerned with God-consciousness? 12 Hast thou seen if he denieth (Allah's guidance) and is froward? 13 does he not know that Allah sees? 14 And yet indeed if he does not desist We shall drag him by the forelock, 15 a lying, sinful forelock. 16 So let him now call his gang! 17 We shall summon the guards of Hell. 18 By no means! Obey not thou him. Continue to adore, and continue to draw nigh. ۩ 19
