The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
Read in the name of your Lord Who created. 1 Created man from a clot. 2 Recite, and your Lord is the most Generous - 3 who taught by the Pen, 4 Hath taught man that which he knew not. 5 Despite this, the human being still tends to rebel 6 because he thinks that he is independent. 7 Surely your returning is to your Lord. 8 Have you seen him who restrains 9 a servant when he prays -- 10 Have you thought, if he had been on guidance 11 and enjoins piety? 12 What is your opinion – if he denies and turns away, how wretched will be his state! 13 Does he not know that Allah does see? 14 Let him beware! If he does not desist, We will drag him by the forelock -- 15 A forelock, lying, sinning. 16 Then, let him call upon his council (of helpers), 17 We will call on the angels of punishment (to deal with him)! 18 Nay! (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him))! Do not obey him (Abu Jahl). Fall prostrate and draw near to Allah! ۩ 19
