The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ When the forthcoming event does occur. 1 Which is bound to happen undoubtedly -- 2 (a calamitous Event) that shall turn things upside down: 3 When the earth is shaken 4 and the mountains are totally shattered and crumble to pieces 5 becoming scattered dust, 6 and you shall be three bands -- 7 Then the companions of the right - what are the companions of the right? 8 And those on the left hand; how miserable shall those on the left hand be! 9 And the preceders are the preceders. 10 These are they who are drawn nigh (to Allah), 11 In Gardens of Delight. 12 A number of people from those of old, 13 but only a few from the later generations. 14 On thrones woven [with ornament], 15 reclining on them, arrayed face to face; 16 Round about them will (serve) youths of perpetual (freshness), 17 With goblets, (shining) beakers, and cups (filled) out of clear-flowing fountains: 18 which will not cause them any intoxication or illness. 19 with fruits of their own choice 20 And the meat of fowl, from whatever they desire. 21 And (there will be) Houris (fair females) with wide, lovely eyes (as wives for the pious), 22 like hidden pearls, 23 Reward for what they used to do. 24 They shall not hear therein vain or sinful discourse, 25 (Naught) but the saying: Peace, (and again) Peace. 26 As for the people of the right hand, how happy they will be! 27 They shall be in the midst of thornless lote trees, 28 And banana-trees (with fruits), one above another. 29 And a shade ever-spread. 30 near to flowing water 31 And fruit, abundant [and varied], 32 Whose season is not limited, nor (supply) forbidden, 33 And on couches or thrones, raised high. 34 We have created maidens perfectly 35 And made them virgins, 36 chastely amorous, 37 For those of the right hand. 38
