By no means! By the moon, 32 And the night when it departs, 33 And the dawn when it shineth forth, 34 Lo! this is one of the greatest (portents) 35 a warning to humankind, 36 to whoever of you desires to go forward or lag behind. 37 Each soul is held in pledge for what it earns, 38 save the Companions of the Right; 39 In Gardens (Paradise) they will ask one another, 40 And (ask) of the Sinners: 41 'What caused you to be thrust into the Scorching (Fire)' 42 They will say: we have not been of those who prayed. 43 nor did we feed the destitute. 44 and we were wont to indulge in sinning together with all [the others] who indulged in it; 45 "And we used to deny the Day of Judgment, 46 "Until there came to us (the death) that is certain." 47 The intercession of their intercessors shall not benefit them. 48 What is then the matter with them, that they turn away from the admonition 49 As if they were alarmed donkeys 50 fleeing before a lion? 51 Aye! every one of them desireth that: he should be vouchsafed scrolls expanded. 52 By no means. In fact they do not fear the Hereafter. 53 Nay, this surely is an admonition: 54 Let anyone who seeks guidance do so. 55 they will only take heed if God so wills: He is the Lord who is worthy to be feared: the Lord of forgiveness. 56
