A multitude of those of old 39 And a large group from the latter. 40 And the fellows on the left hand; how miserable shall the fellows on the left hand be! 41 In scorching wind and scalding water 42 And shadow of black smoke, 43 neither cool nor refreshing. 44 Before they lived at ease, 45 And persisted obstinately in wickedness supreme! 46 And they used to say, "What! when we die and become dust and bones, shall we then indeed be raised up again?- 47 (We) and our fore-fathers of yore?” 48 Say: "Indeed, the earlier and the later generations 49 shall be gathered together to the appointed time on a known Day' 50 Then you erring ones, you that cried lies, 51 "Ye will surely taste of the Tree of Zaqqum. 52 filling your bellies, with it 53 and drink boiling water on top of that, 54 You shall drink it as the thirsty camels drink." 55 This will be their welcome on the Day of Judgment. 56 We created you, then why do you believe not? 57 Have ye seen that which ye emit? 58 did you create it or did We? 59 We mete out death among you, and We are not to be outrun, 60 To transfigure you and create you in (forms) that you know not. 61 And you have already known the first creation, so will you not remember? 62 So what is your opinion regarding what you sow? 63 Is it you that make it grow, or are We the Grower? 64 [For,] were it Our will, We could indeed turn it into chaff, and you would be left to wonder [and to lament,] 65 crying, "We have been left to suffer loss. 66 "Nay, but we are deprived!" 67 Tell Me! The water that you drink. 68 Is it you who caused it to descend from the cloud, or is it We Who cause it to descend? 69 [It comes down sweet - but] were it Our will, We could make it burningly salty and bitter: why, then, do you not give thanks [unto Us]? 70 Have you thought about the fire you kindle? 71 Is it you who have produced its tree or is it We who have produced it? 72 We have made it as a reminder of hell and as a utility for travellers in the jungle. 73 Therefore (O dear Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him) proclaim the Purity of the name of your Lord, the Greatest. 74
