The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
I swear by the angels who violently pull out the souls of the wicked, 1 and those that draw out violently, 2 and by those that speedily glide along (the cosmos), 3 And by those that press forward as in a race (i.e. the angels or stars or the horses, etc.). 4 and by those who regulate events. 5 [HENCE, think of] the Day when a violent convulsion will convulse [the world,] 6 followed by the succeeding, 7 hearts will undergo terrible trembling, 8 and eyes will be humbly cast down. 9 They shall say, 'What, are we being restored as we were before? 10 even after we have been reduced to bones, hollow and rotten?” 11 They say: “That will then be a return with a great loss!” 12 But verily, it will be but a single (Compelling) Cry, 13 and they will be upon the surface of the earth (alive). 14 Has not there come to you the story of Musa? 15 Recall what time his Lord called unto him in the holy vale of Tuwa. 16 Go to Fir'aun (Pharaoh), verily, he has transgressed all bounds (in crimes, sins, polytheism, disbelief, etc.). 17 And say to him: "Would you purify yourself (from the sin of disbelief by becoming a believer)", 18 "'And that I guide thee to thy Lord, so thou shouldst fear Him?'" 19 So he showed him the mighty sign. 20 but he belied and disobeyed, 21 and then he turned back to have recourse to his craftiness, 22 And assembled (his council) and proclaimed, 23 “I am the supreme lord of you all.” 24 Allah therefore seized him, in the punishment of this world and the Hereafter. 25 Truly there is a lesson in this for those who fear (the consequences). 26
