The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the heaven is split asunder, 1 And has responded to its Lord and was obligated [to do so] 2 When the earth is stretched out taut 3 And hath cast out all that was in her, and is empty 4 and gives ear to its Lord, and is fitly disposed! 5 O man! verily thou art toiling toward thy Lord a painful toiling, and art about to meet Him. 6 The reckoning of those whose Book of records will be given into their right hands 7 His account shall presently be taken by an easy reckoning. 8 And will return unto his folk in joy. 9 But he who is given the Record behind his back, 10 they will say, "Woe to us!" 11 And be thrown to scorching fire. 12 Truly, did he go about among his people, rejoicing! 13 He verily deemed that he would never return (unto Allah). 14 Yea! his Lord had ever been beholding him. 15 But nay! I swear by the sunset redness, 16 and the night and what it envelops 17 And by the moon when it is at the full, 18 That you shall most certainly enter one state after another. 19 So, what is the matter with them that they do not believe, 20 And when the Qur'an is recited to them do not bow in adoration? ۩ 21 Nay, but they who are bent on denying the truth give the lie [to this divine writ]! 22 And Allah is most knowing of what they keep within themselves. 23 So give them the good news of a painful chastisement, 24 Except those who believe and do good; for them is a reward that shall never be cut off. 25
