Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
26 verses, revealed in Mecca after Drivers of the Winds (Al-Dhaareyaat) before The Cave (Al-Kahf)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Have you heard about the Overwhelming Event? 1 Faces on that Day shall be downcast, 2 toiling [under burdens of sin,] worn out [by fear,] 3 they shall enter a burning Fire 4 and will be made to drink from a fiercely boiling spring. 5 they shall have no food but thorns, 6 that will neither nourish nor satisfy their hunger. 7 Faces on that Day shall be delighted, 8 Well-pleased with their endeavour, 9 in a sublime garden, 10 where they will hear no idle talk, 11 Countless springs will flow therein, 12 Within it are couches raised high 13 and goblets placed ready, 14 cushions ranged, 15 And carpets ready spread, 16 Do (these unbelievers) not observe the camels: how they were created? 17 and on the sky, how it is raised aloft, 18 And at the mountains - how they are erected? 19 how the earth was outstretched? 20 Therefore do remind, for you are only a reminder. 21 Thou art not at all a warder over them. 22 However, those who turn away and disbelieve, 23 him will God cause to suffer the greatest suffering [in the life to come]: 24 To Us is surely their returning; 25 In Our hands are their accounts. 26
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
