He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ (The Prophet) frowned and turned away, 1 from a blind man who had come up to him. 2 And what do you know, he may be of the pure! 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and that the admonition might profit him? 4 As to one who regards Himself as self-sufficient, 5 you attend to him, 6 Though it is no blame to thee if he grow not (in spiritual understanding). 7 but as for him who came unto thee full of eagerness 8 and in awe of God 9 Him thou neglectest! 10 No indeed; it is a Reminder 11 For any one who desires to bear it in mind, 12 (It is) in Records held (greatly) in honour (Al-Lauh Al-Mahfuz). 13 Exalted, purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 and angelic scribes. 16 Accursed is man. How ungrateful is he! 17 From what thing did He create him? 18 Out of a sperm-drop did He create him and then determined a measure for him, 19 Then He eased the way for him; 20 Then He causes his death and provides a grave for him. 21 Then, when He willed, He brought him out. (As during the night of Holy Prophet’s ascension, when all the Prophets gathered behind him in the Al Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem. Or when Allah will raise everyone on the Day of Resurrection.) 22 By no means he performed not that which He had commanded him. 23 So let man just consider his food: 24 We let the rain pour down in torrents 25 and cleaved the earth, cleaving it asunder; 26 how We made the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and herbage, 28 and olive trees and date-palms, 29 And gardens, dense with many trees, 30 And fruits and herbage 31 Provision for you and your cattle. 32 But when the great calamity comes 33 That Day shall a man flee from his brother, 34 and his mother and his father; 35 his wife and his children. 36 Every man that day will have concern enough to make him heedless (of others). 37 Some faces that Day, will be bright (true believers of Islamic Monotheism). 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 some faces on that day shall be dusty 40 and overcast with gloom: 41 Those! they are the infidels, the ungodly. 42
True are the words of God the Almighty.
End of Surah: He Frowned ('Abasa). Sent down in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
