The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ WHEN THE SKY is split asunder, 1 And hearkens to its Lord and is dutiful, 2 And when the earth is flattened out, 3 And throws out whatever it contains and is empty, 4 And listens and obeys its Lord, and it must do so; 5 Human being, you strive hard to get closer to your Lord, and so you will certainly receive the recompense (of your deeds). 6 Then whoso is given his account in his right hand 7 shall have an easy reckoning 8 And he will turn to his people, rejoicing! 9 But he who is given the Record behind his back, 10 he will pray for utter destruction 11 And he shall roast into a Blaze. 12 He used to live joyfully among his people, 13 for he never thought that he would have to return [to God]. 14 Why not? His Lord was always watching him. 15 So by oath of the late evening’s light. 16 And by the night and all that it enshroudeth, 17 And by the moon when she becometh full. 18 That you will climb from stage to stage. 19 What aileth them then, that they believe not, 20 Why, when the Quran is recited to them, do they not prostrate themselves? ۩ 21 Nay, (on the contrary), those who disbelieve, belie (Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him) and whatever he brought, i.e. this Quran and Islamic Monotheism, etc.). 22 Yet God has full knowledge of what they conceal [in their hearts]. 23 Therefore give to them glad tidings of a painful punishment, 24 Except to those who believe and work righteous deeds: For them is a Reward that will never fail. 25
