Tell them the story of Abraham, 69 When he said unto his father and his people: what worship ye? 70 They said: "We worship idols, and to them we are ever devoted." 71 He said, "Do they hear you when you supplicate? 72 Or do they benefit or harm you? 73 They answered: "No; but we found our forefathers doing so." 74 He said: "Do ye then see whom ye have been worshipping,- 75 "You and your ancient fathers? 76 "Now [as for me, I know that,] verily, these [false deities] are my enemies, [and that none is my helper] save the Sustainer of all the worlds, 77 Who created me, and He doth guide me, 78 and is the One who gives me to eat and to drink, 79 "And when I am ill, it is He who cures me. 80 And Who causeth me to die, then giveth me life (again), 81 and He who will, I hope, forgive me my faults on the Day of the Judgement. 82 Lord, grant me authority. Join me to the righteous ones. 83 And appoint for me an honourable mention among the posterity 84 And place me among the inheritors of the Garden of Pleasure. 85 "Forgive my father, for that he is among those astray; 86 And do not disgrace me on the Day they are [all] resurrected - 87 The Day whereon neither wealth nor sons will avail, 88 [and when] only he [will be happy] who comes before God with a heart free of evil!" 89 On the Day of Judgment Paradise will be brought near the pious 90 and Hell advanced for the perverse. 91 It will be said to them: 'Where is that you worshipped, 92 "Instead of Allah? Can they help you or (even) help themselves?" 93 So they shall be thrown down into it, they and the erring ones, 94 And the hosts of Iblis, together. 95 They will say while they dispute therein, 96 “By oath of Allah, we were indeed in open error.” 97 "'When we held you as equals with the Lord of the Worlds; 98 It was naught but the sinners that led us astray; 99 Now we have no intercessors 100 Nor any sincere friend. 101 Would that we might return again, and be among the believers' 102 There is certainly a sign in that, but most of them would not believe: 103 And indeed, your Lord - He is the Exalted in Might, the Merciful. 104
