The Town (Al-Balad)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ I swear by this city -- 1 And you are free (from sin, to punish the enemies of Islam on the Day of the conquest) in this city (Makkah). 2 And [by] the father and that which was born [of him], 3 Verily, We have created man in toil. 4 Thinketh he, that none hath power over him? 5 He says (boastfully): "I have wasted wealth in abundance!" 6 Thinketh he that none beholdeth him? 7 Have We not made for him two eyes? 8 a tongue, and two lips, 9 And pointed out to him the two conspicuous ways? 10 But he could not scale the steep ascent. 11 And what shall make thee understand that which the steep is? 12 (It is) to free a slave, 13 Or, feeding, in a day of privation, 14 To an orphan, having relationship, 15 Or of a homeless needy person! 16 and being, withal, of those who have attained to faith, and who enjoin upon one another patience in adversity, and enjoin upon one another compassion. 17 They are those on the Right Hand (the dwellers of Paradise), 18 and [as for] those who are bent on denying the truth of Our revelations, they are the people of the left hand, 19 The Fire will be shut over them (i.e. they will be enveloped by the Fire without any opening or window or outlet. 20
