Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Ha. Mim. 1 By the manifest Book (this Quran) that makes things clear, 2 Verily We have sent it down on a blessed night, verily We were to become warners. 3 therein every wise bidding 4 A command from Us; surely We are the senders (of apostles), 5 as a Mercy from your Lord. Surely He is All-Hearing, All-Seeing, 6 The Lord of the heavens and the earth and what is between them, if you would be sure. 7 There is no god but He; He gives life and makes to die; your Lord and the Lord of your fathers, the ancients. 8 Nay, but they [who lack inner certainty] are but dying with their doubts. 9 Wait, then, for the Day when the sky brings forth plainly visible clouds of smoke. 10 That shall overtake men; this is a painful punishment. 11 Lord, remove this torment from us for we are believers". 12 How can there be an admonition unto them, when surely there came unto them an apostle manifest! 13 Yet they turned away from him and said: one tutored, one distraced. 14 If We remove the torment a little, you revert back (to misdeeds). 15 The Day We will strike with the greatest assault, indeed, We will take retribution. 16 ۞ And before them We indeed tried the people of Firaun, and an Honourable Noble Messenger came to them. 17 Saying: Give up to me the slaves of Allah. Lo! I am a faithful messenger unto you. 18 and do not exalt yourselves in defiance of Allah. I have come to you with a clear authority (as a Messenger). 19 "And truly, I seek refuge in my Lord and your Lord, lest you stone me (or call me a sorcerer or kill me). 20 And if you do not believe me, then leave me' 21 Then he called upon his Lord: these are a people guilty. 22 So go forth with My servants by night; surely you will be pursued: 23 Then leave the sea calm they are an army that will be drowned. 24 How many of gardens and springs do they [Fir'aun's (Pharaoh) people] left. 25 and sown fields and splendid mansions, 26 And wealth (and conveniences of life), wherein they had taken such delight! 27 Thus. And We caused to inherit it another people. 28 And the heaven and the earth wept not for them, nor were they reprieved. 29
