The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the star when it sets: 1 Your companion (Muhammad SAW) has neither gone astray nor has erred. 2 He does not speak out of his own desires. 3 that [which he conveys to you] is but [a divine] inspiration with which he is being inspired 4 taught him by one terrible in power, 5 one endowed with immense wisdom. He came forth and stood poised, 6 being on the higher horizon, 7 Thereafter he drew nigh, then he let himself down. 8 until he was as close to him as the distance of two bows, or even less. 9 and revealed to God's servant what he revealed. 10 The (Prophet's) (mind and) heart in no way falsified that which he saw. 11 Will you then argue with him about what he saw? 12 And indeed he did see the Spectacle again. 13 By the lote-tree of the utmost boundary, 14 Nigh thereto is the Garden of Abode. 15 When that covered the lote-tree which covered it. 16 His eye did not waver, nor did it stray, 17 truly did he see some of the most profound of his Sustainer's symbols. 18 HAVE YOU, then, ever considered [what you are worshipping in] Al-Lat and Al-Uzza, 19 and the third one, Manat? -- 20 What! unto you the males and unto Him the females? 21 Behold, such would be indeed a division most unfair! 22 These are only names which you and your fathers have invented. No authority was sent down by God for them. They only follow conjecture and wish-fulfilment, even though guidance had come to them already from their Lord. 23 Does man imagine that it is his due to have all that he might wish for, 24 And to God belongs the First and the Last. 25
