The News (Al-Naba')
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ About what are they asking one another? 1 Concerning the Great News, 2 that they are in utter disagreement? 3 No indeed; they shall soon know! 4 Nay, again, but they will come to know! 5 Have We not made the earth as a place to rest 6 And the mountains as pegs? 7 And We created you in pairs 8 And made your sleep for rest, 9 And made the night as clothing 10 and We made the day for a livelihood. 11 and built above you seven strong firmaments, 12 And We made a shining lamp, 13 And sent down, from the rain clouds, pouring water 14 That We may produce from it grain and vegetation, 15 and gardens dense with foliage? 16 Surely the day of decision is (a day) appointed: 17 The day the trumpet blast is sounded you will come in hordes; 18 And the heaven will be opened – it therefore becomes like gates. 19 and when the mountains are made to vanish as if they had been a mirage. 20 Verily the Hell is an ambuscade: 21 a resort for the rebellious; 22 They will tarry therein for ages. 23 They will neither taste anything cool in it, nor anything to drink. 24 only burning despair and ice-cold darkness: 25 An appropriate recompense. 26 Verily they were wont not to look for a reckoning. 27 and they cried loud lies to Our signs; 28 and everything We have numbered in a Book. 29 (They will be told), "Suffer, We shall only increase the torment for you". 30
