He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 Because the blind man came unto him. 2 What made you think that he will not grow in virtue, 3 or receive some (Quranic) advice which would benefit him. 4 Now he who waxes indifferent, 5 So you are after him! 6 though it is not thy concern, if he does not cleanse himself. 7 As for him who comes to you striving after goodness, 8 And with fear (in his heart), 9 you ignore him. 10 No indeed, this is a Reminder; 11 So let him who pleases mind it. 12 (It is) in Records held (greatly) in honour (Al-Lauh Al-Mahfuz). 13 Exalted, pure. 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Honourable and Pious and Just. 16 Perish Man! How unthankful he is! 17 Of what thing hath He created him? 18 Out of a sperm-drop did He create him and then determined a measure for him, 19 Then eased the way for him. 20 Then causeth him to die, and burieth him; 21 Then when He wills, He will resurrect him. 22 Nay, but (man) hath not done what He commanded him. 23 Then let mankind look at his food - 24 How We pour water in showers 25 And We split the earth in fragments, 26 and thereupon We cause grain to grow out of it, 27 And grapes and herbage, 28 And olives and date palms, 29 And gardens of dense shrubbery 30 fruits, and grass. 31 For use and convenience to you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening cry shall be sounded 33 That Day shall a man flee from his own brother, 34 and from his mother and father, 35 And his wife and his sons; 36 on that Day, to every one of them will his own state be of sufficient concern. 37 Some faces will on that Day be bright with happiness, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news (of Paradise). 39 but others will be gloomy 40 o'erspread with darkness -- 41 These will be the unbelievers, the wicked. 42
True are the words of God the Almighty.
