He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because the blind man came unto him. 2 But what could tell thee but that perchance he might grow (in spiritual understanding)?- 3 or take heed and derive benefit from [Our] warning? 4 As for him who thinks himself self-sufficient, 5 To him you give attention. 6 Though it is no blame to thee if he grow not (in spiritual understanding). 7 And he who comes to thee eagerly 8 And he fears, 9 you pay him no heed. 10 No indeed; this is only a Reminder. 11 So let whosoever will pay heed to it, 12 upon pages high-honoured, 13 Exalted, pure. 14 borne by the hands of scribes, 15 noble, pious. 16 Perish Man! How unthankful he is! 17 Out of what did Allah create him? 18 From Nutfah (male and female semen drops) He created him, and then set him in due proportion; 19 Then He eased the way for him; 20 Then He causes him to die, then assigns to him a grave, 21 Then, when He willed, He brought him out. (As during the night of Holy Prophet’s ascension, when all the Prophets gathered behind him in the Al Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem. Or when Allah will raise everyone on the Day of Resurrection.) 22 No indeed! Man has not accomplished His bidding. 23 Let man, then, consider [the sources of] his food: 24 how We pour down rain in abundance, 25 then We split the earth in fissures 26 And produce therein corn, 27 And Grapes and nutritious plants, 28 Olives and dates, 29 And gardens, dense with many trees, 30 And fruits and grasses: 31 (These are made so as to be) means of enjoyment for you and your cattle. 32 But when the Shout cometh 33 on that Day a man shall flee from his own brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 And his wife and his children, 36 For every one of them on that Day shall be business enough to occupy 37 Many faces will that day be bright, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And (many) faces on that day, on them shall be dust, 40 with darkness overspread: 41 those -- they are the unbelievers, the libertines. 42
