The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the heaven, and At-Tariq (the night-comer, i.e. the bright star); 1 And what could make thee conceive what it is that comes in the night? 2 (It is a nightly radiant star). 3 There is no human being but has a protector over him (or her) (i.e. angels incharge of each human being guarding him, writing his good and bad deeds, etc.) 4 Let the human being reflect that from what he has been created. 5 he was created of gushing water 6 Coming from between the back and the ribs. 7 Surely, He is Able to bring him back, 8 On the Day when secrets are disclosed, 9 Then will he have no might nor any helper. 10 I swear by the raingiving heavens, 11 And the earth which opens up (with verdure), 12 Indeed the Qur’an is a decisive Word. 13 And it is not a thing for amusement. 14 Behold, they [who refuse to accept it] devise many a false argument [to disprove its truth]; 15 and so am I: 16 Give respite to the disbelievers and leave them alone for a while. 17
