We sent Moses with Our signs to Pharaoh and his nobles. He said, "I am the messenger of the Lord of the Universe," 46 So when he brought Our signs to them, they started mocking at them! 47 (Even though) each miracle that We showed them was greater than the other. So We seized them with chastisement so that they may turn back. 48 They said, "Magician, pray to your Lord for us through your covenant with Him (If he saves us from the torment), we shall certainly seek guidance". 49 But when We eased them of the torment, behold! they broke their word. 50 And Fir'awn proclaimed among his people, saying: O my people! is not mine the dominion of Misr and witness yonder rivers flowing underneath me? See ye not? 51 "Am I not better than this one [Musa (Moses)], who is Mahin [has no honour nor any respect, and is weak and despicable] and can scarcely express himself clearly? 52 "Why then are not golden bracelets bestowed on him, or angels sent along with him?" 53 Then he incited his people and they obeyed him; verily they were ever a transgressing people. 54 Then when they displeased Us, We inflicted a retribution on them, so We drowned them all together, 55 and We made them a thing of the past, and We made them an example to later people. 56
