Has the story reached thee, of the honoured guests of Abraham? 24 When they came to him and said, “Peace”; he answered, “Peace”; and thought, “These people are not familiar.” 25 Then he went to his home – so he brought a healthy calf. 26 He placed it before them. Then he said, "Why are you not eating?" 27 (When they did not eat), He conceived a fear of them. They said, "Fear not," and they gave him glad tidings of a son endowed with knowledge. 28 Thereupon his wife approached [the guests] with a loud cry, and struck her face [in astonishment] and exclaimed: "A barren old woman [like me]!" 29 They said: even so saith thine Lord. Verily He! He is the Wise, the Knower. 30 ۞ (Abraham) said: "And what, O ye Messengers, is your errand (now)?" 31 They said, 'We have been sent to a people of sinners, 32 that we may unleash a shower of clay-stones 33 which are marked by your Lord for the punishment of those guilty of excesses." 34 Then we brought forth such believers as were there. 35 But We found in it only one household of those who had surrendered themselves, 36 And We have left there a sign (i.e. the place of the Dead Sea, well-known in Palestine) for those who fear the painful torment. 37 And in Moses [was a sign], when We sent him to Pharaoh with clear authority. 38 But (Pharaoh) turned back with his Chiefs, and said, "A sorcerer, or one possessed!" 39 So We seized him and his hosts, and cast them into the sea. He became an object of much blame. 40 In 'Ad (also is a sign), when We sent a blasting wind against them, 41 It left not aught whereon it came but it made it as matter decayed. 42 And in Thamud, when We said to them: "Enjoy yourselves for a while;" 43 But they insolently defied the Command of their Lord, so the Sa'iqah overtook them while they were looking. 44 And they were unable to arise, nor could they defend themselves. 45 And [thus, too, We destroyed] Noah's people aforetime: for they were iniquitous folk. 46
