Thamud (people) belied the Messenger. 141 When their fellowman Saleh said to them, “Do you not fear?” 142 I am for you a faithful Messenger, 143 So keep your duty to Allah and obey me. 144 I do not ask any recompense of you for this. My reward is due from none but the Lord of all the worlds. 145 "Will ye be left secure, in (the enjoyment of) all that ye have here? 146 amidst gardens and fountains, 147 And green crops (fields etc.) and date-palms with soft spadix. 148 "And you carve houses out of mountains with great skill. 149 So fear you God, and obey you me; 150 And do not obey the order of the transgressors, 151 Who spread corruption in the earth, and reform not. 152 They said: Thou art but one of the bewitched; 153 "Thou art no more than a mortal like us: then bring us a Sign, if thou tellest the truth!" 154 He said: 'Here is a shecamel. She shall have her share of water as you have yours on an appointed day. 155 "Touch her not with harm, lest the Penalty of a Great Day seize you." 156 But they killed her, and then they became regretful. 157 So the chastisement seized them. Surely there is a Sign in this, but most of them would not believe. 158 And most surely your Lord is the Mighty, the Merciful. 159
