He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 when the blind man approached him, 2 You never know. Perhaps he wanted to purify himself, 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and that the admonition might profit him? 4 As for him who thinketh himself independent, 5 To him you give attention. 6 though you will not be questioned even if he never purifies himself. 7 But as to him who came to thee striving earnestly, 8 And with fear (in his heart), 9 From him will you divert yourself. 10 These verses are a reminder 11 For any one who desires to bear it in mind, 12 (Contained) in honoured pages, 13 Exalted, pure. 14 borne by the hands of scribes, 15 noble, pious. 16 May (the disbelieving) human being be condemned! What makes him disbelieve? 17 Of what [stuff] has He created him? 18 From a sperm-drop He created him and destined for him; 19 Then maketh the way easy for him, 20 Then He causes him to die, and puts him in his grave; 21 and He will resurrect him whenever He wants. 22 Nay; but he has not done what He bade him. 23 Then let man look at his food, 24 [how it is] that We pour down water, pouring it down abundantly; 25 and then We cleave the earth [with new growth,] cleaving it asunder, 26 Then We cause to grow therein the grain, 27 And grapes and clover plants (i.e. green fodder for the cattle), 28 And Olives and Dates, 29 and dense orchards, 30 And fruit and grass - 31 A provision for you and your cattle. 32 But when there comes the Deafening Blast 33 on the Day when each man shall flee from his brother, 34 and his mother and his father; 35 And his wife and his sons; 36 for on that day everyone will be completely engrossed in his own concerns. 37 Many a face will be glittering on that day. 38 laughing, and rejoicing, 39 but some faces will be covered with dust 40 Blackness will cover them. 41 These will be the unbelievers, the wicked. 42
