(The tribe of) Thamud denied the messengers (of Allah) 141 When their brother Salih said unto them: Will ye not ward off (evil)? 142 I am a trustworthy Messengers sent to you. 143 so fear you God, and obey you me.' 144 "No reward do I ask of you for it: my reward is only from the Lord of the Worlds. 145 Will you be left secure in this, 146 "In gardens and springs. 147 And corn-fields and palm-trees whereof the spathes are fine? 148 carving comfortable houses out of the mountains? 149 "So fear Allah, keep your duty to Him, and obey me. 150 Do not obey the orders of the transgressors 151 Who spread corruption in the earth, and reform not. 152 Said they: "Thou art but one of the bewitched! 153 You are but a man like ourselves, so bring a sign, if you should be of the truthful." 154 He said, 'This is a she-camel; to her a draught and to you a draught, on a day appointed, 155 And touch her not with ill, lest there take hold of you the torment of a Mighty Day. 156 But they cruelly slaughtered her - and then they had cause to regret it: 157 So the punishment overtook them. Most surely there is a sign in this, but most of them do not believe. 158 And indeed, your Lord - He is the Exalted in Might, the Merciful. 159
