A crowd of earlier generations 39 and also a large throng from those of later times. 40 And those of the left hand, how wretched are those of the left hand! 41 In fierce hot wind and boiling water, 42 and under the shadow of black smoke, 43 which will neither be cool nor soothing. 44 Surely they had lived before in luxury, 45 and persisted in heinous sins. 46 and would say: "What! After we have died and become mere dust and bones, shall we, forsooth, be raised from the dead? 47 Or our fathers of yore? 48 Proclaim, “Without doubt all the former and the latter.” 49 Shall most surely be gathered together for the appointed hour of a known day. 50 Then you, the erring ones and those that gave the lie to the Truth, 51 you will indeed have to taste of the tree of deadly fruit, 52 filling your bellies, with it 53 and on top of this you will drink boiling water 54 "Indeed ye shall drink like diseased camels raging with thirst!" 55 This shall be their entertainment on the Day of Judgement. 56 We have created you, why do you not then assent? 57 Then tell Me (about) the human semen that you emit. 58 Do you create a child out of it, or are We its creators? 59 We have [indeed] decreed that death shall be [ever-present] among you: but there is nothing to prevent Us 60 from changing your Forms and creating you (again) in (forms) that ye know not. 61 And indeed, you have already known the first form of creation (i.e. the creation of Adam), why then do you not remember or take heed? 62 See ye the seed that ye sow in the ground? 63 is it you that sow it, or are We the Sower? 64 Were it Our Will, We could crumble it to dry powder, and ye would be left in wonderment, 65 (Saying): "We are indeed Mughramun (i.e. ruined or lost the money without any profit, or punished by the loss of all that we spend for cultivation, etc.)! [See Tafsir Al-Qurtubi, Vol. 17, Page 219] 66 nay, we are deprived [altogether]." 67 Have you considered the water which you drink? 68 Is it ye who shed it from the raincloud, or are We the Shedder? 69 If We willed, surely We would make it brackish. Wherefore give ye not thanks? 70 Have you seen the fire which you kindle? 71 Is it you who made the tree thereof to grow, or are We the Grower? 72 We have made it as a reminder of hell and as a utility for travellers in the jungle. 73 Extol, then, the limitless glory of thy Sustainer's mighty name! 74
