The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O you who are clothed! 1 Arise and warn! 2 And thy Sustainer's greatness glorify! 3 thy robes purify 4 And banish all trepidation. 5 And give not a thing in order to have more (or consider not your deeds of Allah's obedience as a favour to Allah). 6 And be patient for the sake of your Lord (i.e. perform your duty to Allah)! 7 For when the trumpet shall sound, 8 That shall be - that Day - a day hard. 9 and for the disbelievers, in particular, it will not be at all easy. 10 Leave Me with him whom I created alone, 11 whom I have endowed with abundant riches, 12 And gave him sons present before him. 13 And for whom I smoothed everything. 14 then he is eager that I should do more. 15 Not at all! Surely, he has been disobedient to Our verses. 16 I will constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 He planned and plotted. 18 (Self-)destroyed is he, how he planned! 19 And again perish he! How maliciously he devised! 20 Then he looked round; 21 Then he frowned and he scowled; 22 Then turned he back, and grew stiff-necked. 23 and said, "This is nothing but sorcery from the ancients. 24 These are only words from a mere mortal". 25 I will surely roast him in the Scorching. 26 And what will make you realize what hell is? 27 It leaves nothing, nor does it spare; 28 it scorches (even) the skin. 29 Over it are nineteen (angels as guardians and keepers of Hell). 30 And We have not made the wardens of the fire others than angels, and We have not made their number but as a trial for those who disbelieve, that those who have been given the book may be certain and those who believe may increase in faith, and those who have been given the book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the unbelievers may say: What does Allah mean by this parable? Thus does Allah make err whom He pleases, and He guides whom He pleases, and none knows the hosts of your Lord but He Himself; and this is naught but a reminder to the mortals. 31
